What can I do to keep my email address from being picked up by spammers?
Although there is no 100% sure-fire method of preventing your email address
from getting Spam, you can use the following tips to minimize your chances of
your email addresses being got by spammers.
- If posting to newsgroups, do not put your correct email address.
- Do not subscribe to any mailing lists without first making sure that
they have a policy of privacy concerning your email address information.
- When you choose an email address, choose an address that is not a common
name. If you want to use part of your name in the address, add a few
extra numbers or letters to help prevent an automated system from guessing
your email address too easily.
- If you need are required to register an email address online for
something, get a free account through Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.... Use the
free account to register for the online service that way your primary
account stays strictly for your personal email.
- Keep your email address off as many websites as possible. Spammers
have software that can scan websites for valid email addresses.
